On March 1 presenter Norm Habel investigates The Indigenous God of Abraham

A close reading of the Abraham narrative reveals early texts that reflect Abraham’s initial relationships with the Canaanites, the indigenous people of the so-called Promised Land. Did Abraham recognise the indigenous God of Canaan? If so, does this present a precedent for recognising the faith of the Australian Aborigines?

JENNY OPIE has followed the Buddha’s teachings for forty years after being inspired by Lama Yeshe at a month’s course in Kopan Monastery in Nepal. She has taught meditation to inmates of our prison system and was instrumental in changing the exclusively Christian chaplaincy to multifaith in the 1990s. She was the first Buddhist chaplain in South Australia. Jenny is the author of Simple Truths, an overview of Buddhist wisdom.

Surviving the 21st Century – Lenten Study Series

Rev Dr Jonathan Barker will lead a study series based on Julian Cribb’s challenging book.

Participants will be invited to share in collaborative leadership of the series.
We shall reflect together sociologically and theologically.
The setting will foster an honest enquiry into the topic and encourage participants to seek ways forward for the future of the planet.

Rev Jana Norman is concluding her placement at Pilgrim Uniting Church in January 2017 in order to pursue post-graduate studies at the University of Adelaide.

A farewell and ‘breaking of the ties’ will be included in the service, which will be a combined service at

10.30 am on 8th January 2017

The service will be followed by a light lunch and acknowledgements in the Pilgrim Hall. Rev Diane Bury will be representing the Presbytery at the service and for the lunch and acknowledgments.
